HYDERABAD: Beginning Tuesday, BSNL customers get to choose their favourite mobile phone numbers from a list of one lakh numbers absolutely free.

All the customers have to do is login to the BSNL’s website www.ap.bsnl.co.in and select the number they like from the list of numbers displayed there.

The facility - ‘Choose your mobile number scheme’ - being launched by the state-owned telecom service provider on Tuesday is aimed at drawing more customers to the BSNL in the fiercely competitive mobile phone service market.

The same day, BSNL is coming out with a CDMA service based on RUIM (slightly different from the existing CDMA technology) which offers lower tariff and more facilities.

“Under the choose your number scheme, a prospective customer will be able to choose any number from a list of 1 lakh numbers which will be made available on the BSNL’s official portal.

Customers get the fancy numbers free of cost and tariff will be as per the plan offer,” said Rajeev Agarwal, chief general manager, Andhra Pradesh Telecom Circle, BSNL on Monday.

“On selecting a number on the portal, customers will receive a PIN number on their mobile phone confirming their choice.

The selected number will be blocked for them for 48 hours within which time they need to approach a customer service centre or a retailer with the PIN number to obtain the number.

Each customer can reserve a maximum of two numbers,’’ the CGM said.
