Most school-going kids in the city are not aware of the fact that Hyderabad was home to a large number of water bodies, which have slowly died over a period of time.
To emphasise the need for conserving lakes and educating kids about the same, Arun Krishnamurthy, founder of Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) held a seminar ‘Windage - a social entrepreneurship forum in the field of environment conservation and renewable energy’ in association with the British Council and RRB Energy Limited on Wednesday.
Arun and his team members have come down all the way from Chennai to clean up the Pragathi lake and Gurunatham Cheruvu.
A group of 55 students from Vidyaranya and Sri Nidhi International schools in the city attended the seminar. “This is not a lecture or a seminar, but a place for those who really want to do their bit for the society. We are on the lookout always for dedicated environmentalists,” said Arun.
He suggested that children take up small measures.
“Even if you just explain to your mother about segregating solid and liquid waste at home and if you reduce 100 grams of trash, you will make a huge difference,” Arun explained.
