A division bench of the AP High Court comprising chief justice PC Ghose and justice BN Rao Nalla on Wednesday suspended an order passed by a single judge directing the GHMC to take steps to remove and raze to the ground the prayer hall known as Calvary temple at Hafeezpet in the city.
On January 21, a single judge directed the authorities to demolish the temple within 15 days stating that the constructions erected on the site in question by the petitioner were unauthorized and they deserve to be pulled down and shall not be allowed to be put to use.
P Satish Kumar, founder president of the Calvary temple, moved two appeals against the single judge order by contending that the order was erroneous and without considering the facts on record.
Petitioner’s counsel A K Ganguly informed the court that his clients purchased the land from the original owner of the property and submitted an application to the GHMC for construction of a shed for conducting prayers by the devotees.
