GHMC Launches Initiative for Jobs to Urban Youth

The aim of these eVans and employment zones is to disseminate job openings in private and public sectors for the urban youth

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government through the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has come out with a new initiative to provide suitable jobs to unemployed urban youths.

To provide jobs to youth particularly those living in slums, the GHMC has joined hands with a Hyderabad-based HR services firm. As part of Public Private Partnership (PPP), the corporation has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with TMI e2e Academy on Employment Van (eVan) and Employment Zones (EZ).

GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar told Express here on Tuesday that eVan is an initiative of the corporation along with TMI Group to provide jobs to youths.

The aim of these eVans and EZs is to disseminate job openings in private and  public sector for the benefit of the urban youths. These include jobs in Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The commissioner said that an eVan would be a mobile vehicle which will be equipped with all the resources to register a candidate and to provide necessary information on jobs. The eVans will move around different locations particularly in slums within the Hyderabad city and spread awareness among the job-seekers across the city.

As employment is one of the biggest challenges faced by Telangana youth, it draws thousands of migrants apart from the ones living in the city with a hope of getting better employment opportunities.

The registered candidates would be asked to visit the nearby Employment Zone which would be established by the GHMC in five zonal offices in about two weeks. This means that the state government and the private firm will take the job market to the unemployed youths, he added.

Employment Zones will offer candidate registration, assessment and job information at convenient locations distributed across eight locations in the GHMC designated areas.

The Employment Zones will provide information on jobs available locally and also help them shortlist based on industry and location. Candidates can also register and undergo an assessment and counselling at these employment centres.

Apart from registration, assessment and information for candidates who are unable to clear the assessment, TMI will connect them to the service providers offering appropriate jobs.

In several cases, unemployed youth pay money to unscrupulous elements for getting a job and get cheated. The jobs-seekers are not aware about private sector and MSME jobs available and how to apply for the same.
