HYDERABAD: Hyberabad has emerged as the second largest city in the country for software exports pipping competitors Chennai and Pune. According to data from both STPI and the Department of Commerce, during the financial year 2013-14, Bangalore topped the chart with over 31% exports followed by Hyderabad at 12% and Chennai and Pune at a close 11 and 10% respectively.

Other major cities like Mumbai, Gurgaon and Noida registered 8, 7 and 6% worth exports respectively. “If we look state-wise, Telangana is the fourth largest, but city-wise Hyderabad is the second largest city during the last fiscal,” KT Rama Rao, Minister for IT and Communications, Government of Telangana, told Express.

He said the State has been registering double-digit growth at over 14% and beyond the national average. The State government is now developing cities such as Warangal and Karimnagar as prospective IT destinations. “After the industrial policy is announced, we will conduct an IT workshop where we want Nasscom as a partner. The idea is to understand from the industry what we should do to keep up and improve the growth momentum,” KTR said.
