Express News Service

HYDERABAD: A celestial phenomenon, Venus in conjunction with Jupiter, will occur on August 18, giving people an easy opportunity to see the two planets with the naked eye.

According to Raghunandan Kumar of Planetary Society of India, Jupiter and Venus will appear to be near each other as seen from Earth. The orbit of Venus is much nearer Sun than Earth and that of Jupiter farther from Sun than from Earth.

During the phenomenon, both the planets will look very near each other though there are two planets — Earth and Mars — in between them.

Interestingly, the phenomenon can be viewed for not just one day but for entire one week (August 18-24) around 5:30 am for half an hour before the sunrise. Another two celestial phenomena, ‘Moon in Conjunction with Jupiter’ and ‘Moon in Conjunction with Venus’ will occur on August 23 and 24 respectively.
