Two students drown while taking selfies in Ghatkesar

Two 16-year-old students drowned after slipping into a pond while taking selfies at a crushing unit in Ghatkesar.

HYDERABAD: A fun trip turned fatal for two 16-year-old students, who drowned after slipping into a pond while taking selfies at a crushing unit in Ghatkesar near here on Thursday.   

According to police,  Avinash and PDS Charan, Intermediate first year students, along with three other classmates went to do a photo shoot near a quarry in Ghatkesar.

Thursday being a holiday for colleges, the five teenagers,  students of a private junior college at Tarnaka, boarded a bus to Ghatkesar to have fun. They got down near toll plaza on the Outer Ring Road went to Satyapal crushing unit located in Ghatkesar.

“During the photo shoot, Avinash and Charan went near the water body and slipped into it and drowned. Efforts of their friends to rescue them went in vain,”  Ghatkesar inspector B Prakash said. Police rushed to the spot after being informed and fished out the bodies. They were shifted to Gandhi hospital for post mortem.

The students paid no heed to the words of the watchman who cautioned them against entering the water body.   A case was registered and further investigation is on.
