HYDERABAD: Taking a cue from Gurgaon, the state government has decided to have monorail for the IT corridor in Hyderabad. The first phase of Hyderabad metro rail, covering three high-density traffic corridors for a total length of 72 km, is being developed in public-private partnership and Phase-II is under consideration. In addition, there is a need to provide stress-free, safe and comfortable journey to the areas in and around Hitec City, Financial District, Gachibowli and international airport and monorail could be a solution to it, principal secretary (municipal administration) Arvind Kumar said in his orders issued on Monday.
Arvind Kumar constituted a task force on urban mobility to study the monorail model of Gurgaon for adaptation in Hyderabad’s IT corridor. Municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao observed that there was a need for integration and synergy of various modes of transport such as metro rail, buses, monorail, MMTS, tram and e-vehicles in view of the growing traffic density and the requirement for the next five decades. Rao also felt that the outer ring road (ORR), national highways/state highways and satellite towns, as well as the urban local bodies in a radius of 100 km from Hyderabad, also need to be kept in view while integrating various modes of transportation.
Arvind Kumar constituted the task force to study the monorail model. The committee will suggest the corridors for Phase II and phase III of metro rail project, suggest best and most economical ways of transport including monorail, tram and e-vehicles and any other such rail or road connectivity on various routes.
