Court sentences two to 30 years for sexual assault of minor in Hyderabad

The convicts had threatened her with physical violence to prevent the matter from coming out.

HYDERABAD: A fast-track court for POCSO cases on Wednesday sentenced two men to 30 years’ imprisonment for the repeated sexual assault of a nine-year-old girl in Chandrayangutta police station limits in 2022. A fine of Rs 10,000 each was also imposed on the convicts — Mohammed (24) and Ishaq Khan (19).

In May 2022, the survivor’s mother noticed that the nine-year-old exhibited symptoms of depression and enquired about it. After several assurances, the girl told her mother that Mohammed, who used to run a scrap material shop next to their house, had sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions. Later, he had also called his friend, Ishaq, to join him. Both of them sexually assaulted the minor many times, the girl told her mother. The convicts had threatened her with physical violence to prevent the matter from coming out.

Based on the girl’s account, her mother lodged a complaint with Chandrayangutta police. Based on evidence collected during the probe, the court found the duo guilty and pronounced the judgment. A compensation of Rs 5 lakh has also been awarded to the girl.
