HYDERABAD: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone-tapping case is likely to file a supplementary chargesheet before the Nampally court by the end of August. Three prominent politicians belonging to a political party are likely to be named as accused, along with a few more officials.
So far, six persons have been named as accused in the case — former Special Intelligence Branch (SIB) chief Prabhakar Rao Thatiparthi, former DSP Dugyala Praneeth Rao, suspended Additional SP Nayini Bhujanga Rao, suspended Additional SP Mekala Thirupathanna, former DCP Potlapally Radhakishan Rao and vernacular media channel owner Aruvela Shravan Kumar Rao. Except Shravan Kumar, all the accused are police officers.
A senior police officer told TNIE that investigators have recorded over 600 witness statements. The probe allegedly found that the accused had snooped on bureaucrats, politicians and people connected to the judiciary. Statements of constitutional functionaries, including Governors, have also been recorded.
Sources said the supplementary chargesheet is currently under legal scrutiny and is in the final stage before being submitted to the court.
The case was registered at Panjagutta police station in March 2024. At that time, prime accused Prabhakar Rao had fled to the United States, prompting police to file a preliminary chargesheet.
