KOCHI: Rear Admiral Sunil Lanba took over as the Flag Officer Sea Training at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi. He was serving as the Chief of Staff at the Headquarters Southern Naval Command.

Commissioned into the Navy in 1978, Admiral Lanba is a specialist in Navigation and Direction.

He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College, the College of Defence Management and the Royal College of Defence Studies, London.

He has commanded the Indian Naval Ships Kakinada, Himgiri, Ranvijay and Mumbai.

He has also been the Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and the Executive Officer of the aircraft carrier INS Viraat. His other important appointments include Directing Staff at the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad and Staff Officer (Navigation and Direction) at the Local Workup Team (West).

Rear Admiral Lanba takes over the reins of Headquarters FOST from Rear Admiral R K Pattanaik, who is now headed for the Headquarters Western Naval Command to take over as the Chief of Staff.
