KOCHI: A first-of-its-kind oceanarium project is set to come up on the 40 acres of land owned by the government at Puthuvype.

The proposed oceanarium will showcase aquarium alley, deep sea tunnel, polar pavilion, shark tank, touch tank and other entertainment facilities.

The project, an initiative of the State Fisheries and Resource Management Society (FIRMA), will be launched on a PPP basis.

Estimated at a cost of Rs 350 crore, the project  is envisaged to be rolled out under Design, Built, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT). The consortium of Mahindra Consulting Engineers Ltd and Jacques Rougerie Architecte,  France, has completed the Detailed Feasibility Report and undertaken conceptual design of the project.

The first stage of the selection process involves qualification of bidders in accordance with the provisions of Request for Qualification (RFQ).  

The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation will soon release the RFQ to shortlist applicants for awarding the project through competitive bidding process. Interested parties are encouraged to log on to www.ksidc.org.
