Probe launched into fire accident in oil pipeline

Express News Service

The BPCL Kochi Refinery has constituted a three-member expert committee headed by fire and safety deputy general manager Damian Gracious to probe into the fire accident that took place in the pipeline at Kadavanthra on Tuesday night. The committee will submit the report at the earliest, Refinery officials said.

The committee members visited the accident spot and collected evidence on Wednesday. The officials from the Department of Explosives also collected data from the place.

Two Nagercoil natives suffered burn injuries in the accident. Eyewitnesses said that the fire from crackers was the reason behind the mishap.

“The 12-km pipeline was to carry oil from Kochi oil terminal to the refinery. The pipeline was defunct for the last two years.

“Regular maintenance is being done in the pipeline. The company has also constituted an internal committee to find out the reason behind the incident,” a refinery spokesperson said.
