NRKs told not to send packages in console format

The Cochin Port has been experiencing an unprecedented flow of console containers

Express News Service

The Cochin Port Trust has asked non-resident Keralites (NRK) not to send their packages in console format along with the other cargo.

It has been pointed out that the port has been experiencing an unprecedented flow of console containers of import of unaccompanied baggage of non-resident Indians.

“Unlike the processing of a full container imported by a non-resident, a console container - an arrangement of consolidating packages of various people into one container by the agent abroad - results in longer processing.

If even one of the packages do not conform to the rules and regulations, the  clearance of the whole container gets delayed.

Such containers may take over two weeks for obtaining clearance.

It also results in additional costs like ground rent for containers and storage charges of the de-stuffed cargo,” said a statement issued by the Cochin Port Trust.

The packages which were sent by air earlier, are being sent as ship cargo now, the officials pointed out.
