The department of Social Justice and Abhinaya Theatre Research Centre will stage a play, ‘Irakalodu Matramalla Samsarikendathu’ on Sunday, March 17, at the Fine Arts Hall in the city. The 95-minute play will have 13 actors from the Abhinaya Research Centre.

The play describes the contemporary life experiences of six female characters. The actors include Anil P and Gopalan, Mahendra Excellence Award winners, as well as Surabhi and Sujatha Jenanethri, Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy winners. The other performers include Shailaja P Ambu, Chinnu Kuruvila, Babila, Parvathi, Pratheesh Raveendran, Ajaya Kumar, Atul and Baiju Korani.

The play is directed by M G Jyothish, the artistic director of Abhinaya, and actor and director D Reghoothaman.

They have adopted an interactive style where audience reaction and discussions will be allowed. “This is an attempt to address the violence against women,” says Parvathi, an actor. “We thought it would be more effective to sensitise men against the atrocities, and urge them to stop violence against women.”
