KOCHI: Isro Chairman A S Kiran Kumar lauded the efforts of the varsity in successfully developing and installing the indigenous 205 MHz Stratosphere -Troposphere (ST) Radar, a first of its kind in the world.
“ST Radar is of global significance since it has the capability to improve short-term weather forecast and related research,” he said during his visit to the Advanced Centre for Atmospheric Radar Research (ACARR) on Wednesday. Kumar said severe weather events such as thunderstorms can be predicted with ample lead time so that fatalities can be avoided.
He also highlighted the need for sharing radar data in real-time mode through a common platform with academicians, researchers and the public. ISRP Deputy Director C V Anandan, registrar S David Peter, ACRR director K Mohan Kumar, K Vasudevan, Mohanan and K R Santhosh were also present on the occasion.
