KOCHI: The Corporation on Saturday granted permission to Oberon Mall, which had been  temporarily closed down over safety concerns, to resume operations, subject to certain conditions. 

According to Corporation secretary, A S Anuja, the mall was granted permission to resume functioning on the condition the food courts remained shuttered. Besides, the safety guidelines issued by the Fire and Rescue Services Department have to be implemented by the mall authorities within 45 days. 

“We have given 45 days’ time to the mall owners to implement the fire safety mechanism. If they fail to do this within the stipulated time, closure notice will be served on them,” said Mayor Soumini Jain.

Oberon Mall was closed down on Thursday following a stop memo from the civic body after it emerged the mall had resumed functioning in flagrant violation of the fiat  issued in the wake of the blaze on May 16.
