22-year old girl hacked to death in Kochi's Perumbavoor; two migrant labourers in custody

Officers said that the suspects allegedly attacked the girl, who is a degree final year student in MES College.

KOCHI: After the brutal rape and murder of a law student, Perumabvoor, a hub of migrant workers, witnessed another killing of a college student allegedly by migrant labourers. Nimisha, 22, a native of Malayidamthuruthu, in Thadiyittaparambu police station limits, in Perumbavoor, was hacked to death.

According to the officers, two Assam natives were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Officers added, that the suspects allegedly attacked the girl, who is a degree final year student in MES College, Vazhakulam, when she resisted a molestation attempt by one of the persons in custody.

The suspects stabbed the girl using a knife and a deep injury on her neck led to the death. The body is kept at Perumbavoor Taluk Hospital. The father of the girl also sustained severe injuries in the attack.

Following the incidents, the irate local residents ransacked the places where migrant workers are staying, which in turn created a tension in the area. A large posse of police personnel under Perumbavoor CI Baiju Paulose is camping in the area.

"A detailed interrogation of the persons in custody is underway. Right now the details of the suspects could not be divulged", said an officer.
