KOCHI: The Cochin Shipyard delivered Mangrol, the third of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft to the Indian Navy on Friday. Designed and constructed in accordance with the classification rules of Det Norske Veritas (DNV), the warship is equipped to undertake a range of critical maritime missions, including underwater surveillance, search and rescue (SAR) operations and low intensity maritime operations.
Mangrol is specifically designed to undertake anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations in coastal waters and is equipped with advanced mine-laying capabilities. The vessel derives its name from the strategically significant coastal township of Mangrol in Gujarat’s Surat.
The warship is powered by a diesel engine-waterjet propulsion system and incorporates state-of-the-art equipment, including lightweight torpedoes, indigenous ASW rockets and advanced shallow-water sonars. This enhances the vessel’s capability to detect, track and counter underwater threats in shallow coastal waters.
