THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: J. Prasad has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. He assumed charge on Tuesday. Sources said that Prasad was the only candidate in the list submitted to Governor R.S. Gavai.
The Governor later approved his name for the post. The term of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor K.S.
Radhakrishnan had ended on Tuesday. His tenure in the University was marked by opposition to the Government as well as the pro-Left teachers and employees organisations.
He was also under vigilance probe following the allegations regarding the purchase of land for the University Regional Centre at Koyilandi.
Though Radhakrishnan had sought permission for voluntary retirement, the Collegiate Education Director had rejected his application.
J. Prasad is the president of AKGCT, the pro-CPM association of Government College Teachers.
