THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Asianet News Private Limited has termed the decision of cable TV operators to boycott Asianet News Channel as "violation of media rights".

In a statement here on Sunday, T N Gopakumar, editor-in-chief, and Frank P Thomas, business head of Asianet News Private Limited, said that the decision of cable TV operators was unfortunate.

They have taken the decision in protest against making Asianet and Asianet Plus channels pay channels. No decision has been taken to make Asianet news channel a pay channel.

Asianet and Asianet Plus channels are under the Star Group and Asianet News channel is owned by Jupiter Group of Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The news channel has no foreign direct investment. Hence the stand of cable operators is unfortunate, they said.
