“Though I played an important role with Prem Nazir in my first film, my name was not seen in the credits when I went to see the film at Sri Chitra Theatre in Thiruvananthapuram. I went back home with a heavy heart. Later, I realised that the director had changed my name Madhavan Nair to Madhu and it was scrolled next to the name of Nazir,” said the veteran actor here on Friday.

He was interacting with children after inaugurating the vacation class organised by Kerala State Council for Child Welfare.

Madhu asked children to take up responsibilities. “Children must help parents. They must give medicines to grandparents. Children must be keen observers. Those who are not observing are losing major things in life,” Madhu said.

To the question of a participant, Madhu said, “I became an actor by understanding the experience of others and by observing them. My father and brothers were politicians. Nobody at home helped me in becoming an actor,” he said.

Madhu said he loved all his roles and believes his role in ‘Chemmeen’ had influenced him the most. “I couldn’t make a children’s film due to the lack of a good subject. I will make one when I get the right opportunity,” he said.

“To act in cinema, one must be a keen observer. Artists must love others. We must love our land and our people,” he added.

Academic and non-academic topics will be discussed in the vacation class. More than 150 students are attending the class, which will be on till May 31.
