Manava Karunya Yatra ends

Manava Karunya Padayathra (MKY), a campaign of the Kidney Foundation of India and led by Fr Davis Chiramel to promote organ donation came to an end at a function here on Saturday.

 Inaugurating the closing ceremony,T K A Nair, Principal Adviser to the Prime Minister, extended full support to the mission taken up by the Foundation.  Former DGP Jacob Punnoose, Santhigiri Ashram organising secretary Swami Gururatnajnana Thapaswi, School of Bhagavat Gita founder Swami Sandeepananda Giri, Revenue Principal Secretary  K B Valsalakumari, John Mundakkayam, among others, attended the ceremony.

The programme honoured living donors and paid tribute to donors of cadavers. Sharing his experiences related to both donors and recipients in the yathra, MKY chairman Fr Davis Chiramel called for a vigorous, committed and consistent campaign for organ donation by spreading the experience of all donors and recipients.  The office-bearers of Poothurackal village, which had entered the Limca Book of Records for the feat of each and every member cutting across age, caste and creed giving their consent letter to donate organs, were honoured on the occasion. The grama panchayat was bestowed with the honour of a model village.  A documentary was screened on MKY 2012 from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram showing  the widespread support to the campaign among the people.
