‘Vandalisation of Vijayan’s statue a planned act’

Express News Service

Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram director P Parameswaran said here on Friday that the vandalisation of O V Vijayan’s statue in Kottakkal Raja’s High School was not just a dastardly act by stray fanatical elements but was a planned attempt to pre-empt the installation of a statue of Thunchath Ezhuthachan on the campus of the newly-established Malayalam University.

“Years ago when preparations were made to install a statue of Thunchath Ezhuthachan at Tirur, the Muslim League had opposed it. Even in Kottakkal, the League-controlled Municipality had originally opposed the move on technical grounds. But conciliation was reached by the intervention of the Muslim League MP Abdussamad Samadani to save their face,” he said.

Stating that the blame of vandalisation was laid at the doors of anti-social conspirators, Parameswaran alleged that the real question would arise when the Malayalam University makes a proposal for the father of Malayalam literature’s statue on the campus.
