THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:‘Achchan Piranna Veedu,’ a collection of poems by V Madhusoodanan Nair, has won the 10th Malayattoor Award instituted in the memory of writer Malayattoor Ramakrishnan.

The award, instituted by the Malayattoor Smaraka Samithi, carries a cash prize of Rs 15,000, statuette and citation. The Malayattoor Prize for new writers has gone to ‘Aparakanthi,’ a novel by Sangeetha Sreenivasan. The prize comes with `5001 and a citation.

 The winners were selected by a panel consisting of K Jayakumar, Vice-Chancellor, Thunchath Ezhuthachchan Malayalam University, D Benjamin and V K Jayakumar, chairman of the  Malayattoor Smaraka Samithi.

 Madhusoodanan Nair’s ‘Achchan Piranna Veedu’ comes as a distinct voice in the contemporary poetry, V K Jayakumar said.The awards will be presented in March here.
