THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: e-District Kerala, one of the flagship citizen-oriented e-Governance projects, has crossed yet another milestone by processing over two core certificates and recording over 3.2 crore transactions through its online platform since going live state-wide in 2013.
Currently, 24 day-to-day revenue certificate services, including income, caste and possession, are offered through e-District with over 1,600 village and taluk offices and more than 2,500 Akshaya centres equipped with online application processing facilities.
All certificates issued through e-District electronically bear the digital signature of the issuing officer concerned. Transactions have also been recorded for more than 500 payment services available through e-District such as electricity bills, water bills, telephone bills and university fees.
e-District services can be accessed by visiting any Akshaya centre or directly through the internet from anywhere, which is beneficial especially to non-residents, through a fully featured online public portal (https://edistrict.kerala.gov.in).
The e-District project, a State Mission Mode Project under the Centre’s National e-Governance Plan, was launched in Kerala as a pilot project in Palakkad and Kannur districts during 2010, and rolled out across all remaining districts by March 2013.
The objective of the project was to provide high volume citizen services beneficial to the general public, which were being delivered at the district level, with better efficiency, transparency and reliability through an online channel and thereby introduce the concept of true single window delivery of government services.
Kerala State IT Mission (KSITM) is responsible for the implementation of the e-District project in Kerala. According to K Mohammad Y Safirulla, Director, KSITM, new services are continuously being added to the e-District service portfolio.
KSITM is presently engaged in the process of rolling out an online system for administering Revenue Court cases across all 21 Revenue Divisional Offices in the state, to ease the task of petition filing and processing at RDOs, Safirulla said.
