VIJAYAWADA: Post demonetisation, innocent people are becoming more susceptible to online frauds, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Kanthi Rana Tata on Tuesday. With the objective of civic and corporate responsibility, the city police organised a ‘Crime Awareness Programme’ for bankers. Top police officials shared their experiences relating to monetary and online crimes.

Police authorities told bankers that fake phone calls in the name of bank officials and OTP frauds are the rise and hence, requested them to create awareness among their customers. The police officials expressed dismay over the lack of cooperation of financial institutions due to which they were unable to recover robbed money.

“All the bank authorities should install high definition surveillance cameras inside and outside, as the banks are highly vulnerable to crimes. Kindly provide the CCTV footage to police to solve the cases,” said Joint Commissioner BV Ramana Kumar. “If bankers delay in providing us information, it will help the offenders to escape,” he added.

Kanthi Rana Tata enquired from bankers whether an illegal transaction can be stopped immediately after being reported. He said, “With the rise in cyber crime, we need to function as a team. Let us form a team with a representative from each bank to solve the bank related cases.”

“Please inform customers about the security features of debit and credit cards and KYC norms,” said DCP Gajarao Bhupal. He requested the bankers to furnish particulars of their outsourcing security staff.
