Compensate farmers for Dream City: Retired SC judge

Justice Gopala Gowda said that the government should consider the advices made by the Siva Rama Krishna Committee which served for the capital construction.

VIJAYAWADA: Retired Supreme Court judge Justice V Gopala Gowda, who attended a meeting conducted on Sunday for discussing the injustice being done to farmers and land of the AP capital region, said no act that affects the environment should ever be done and the farmers should be provided enough compensation without any injustice.

Discussions regarding sustainable development, land acquisition from farmers, agricultural and labour rights, the responsibilities of government towards the law violations took place in the meeting at Vedika Function Hall here.

Justice Gopala Gowda said, “Nobody opposes development. But the livelihood of people should never be affected. The government should consider the advices made by the Siva Rama Krishna Committee which served for the capital construction.

The AP Reorganization Act told to construct the capital as immediately as possible. But the choice of having Hyderabad as mutual capital is still open for 10 years. Any government should obey the laws and Constitution. The capital formation in Amaravati is interlinked with huge number of farmers and their livelihood and settlements which should not be affected.
