VIJAYAWADA: The Gymkhana Ground in Gandhinagar has become a hot topic in the city with both the AP Brahmins’ Welfare Association and the Samajika Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Wednesday indulging in a heated argument over conducting their respective programs at the venue on October 28.
Even as the AP Brahmins’ Welfare Association and the Arya Vysyas community planned to conduct Aathmiya Sabha on October 28, Samajika JAC along with the Dalit Bahujan Sangh made arrangements for the felicitation of professor Kancha Ilaiah, extending support to his controversial book Komatollu

Both the parties claimed to have taken permission from the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and police commissionerate to organise the events.
However, fearing unrest if Ilaiah is felicitated, the police have imposed Section 144 in the city from Thursday. The Vysya community had strongly opposed the publication of the book which they said stoked casteist embers.
