VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada senior divisional security commissioner of Railway Protection Force, SR Gandhi, held an awareness programme with the Vijayawada Jewellers and Merchants Association and passengers on Tuesday, and asked them to be alert if they travel carrying gold ornaments.

Gandhi warned the gold merchants against inter-state gold robbers, and said the robbers are always equipped and can even break padlocks. “It is advisable to use hard suitcases with in-built lock mechanisms instead of trolley bags. Merchants should keep an eye on their luggage and make sure their luggage is locked to the lower birth,” he said.

He said travellers could dial Railway Protection Force’s toll free number 182 if they spot any suspicious person in their vicinity.
