VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada City Mayor Koneru Sreedhar along with municipal commissioner J Nivas felicitated sanitation workers and officials considering their efforts in making Vijayawada achieve the Cleanest City tag (in the above one million population category) and fifth cleanest city in the country (in the above 10 million population category) under Swachh Survekshan-2018 survey conducted by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.

At a programme organised on Monday, Sreedhar and Nivas presented mementos and appreciation certificates to the sanitation workers. Speaking on the occasion, mayor said sanitation workers were playing a vital role in maintaining cleanliness in the city after it was announced a part of the state capital Amaravati by the government. Recognising their services, VMC has given them two pairs of uniform and provided for necessary facilities for them during their duty hours.

“By giving top priority to maintenance of sanitation, the civic body achieved the ‘Cleanest City’ award in Swachh Survekshan-2018. Securing such a prestigious award for Vijayawada, a part of State capital region, is a remarkable achievement for VMC,” Nivas said.
