VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said the launch of the first international flight service from Vijayawada to Singapore from December 4 will herald a new era in the history of Amaravati. He termed it a significant milestone in the journey of building a world-class capital city in Amaravati and a boon to economic development.

In a teleconference with officials on Sunday, the Chief Minister asked them to put serious efforts on increasing air connectivity worldwide from the airports in the State to bring global exposure to Amaravati and give a boost to the economic activities across the State.

“My efforts to attract national and international investors to Amaravati have yielded results with several global players choosing Amaravati as their destination even as AP is a newly-bifurcated State. It is a big achievement of our government. As a result, rapid development in various sectors such as development of the new capital city, new infrastructure projects, major industries and increasing investments have triggered passenger traffic at Vijayawada Airport, which tripled over the last 4-5 years,” he said.

Officials were asked to make all-out efforts for improving aviation infrastructure with global standards to provide reliable and direct air connectivity to all regions in the State that would help take the development activity to the next level.

Principal Secretary (Infrastructure and investment) Ajay Jain said that the airport witnessed 70 per cent increase in traffic, with nearly 7,00,000 passengers travelling during April-October this year.
