Basil Joseph is an engineering graduate from CET (College of Engineering, Trivandrum) one of the most reputed colleges in the state. After finishing college he went on to work for Infosys for two years till he finally decided to follow his dream and get into films. “I always wanted to be a part of cinema but I didn’t know anybody from the industry or anything, so I taught myself through YouTube tutorials and books,” said Basil.
Basil had done three short films (Shh, Priyamvadha Katharayano and Oru Thundu Padam) and a couple of short videos for Infosys before venturing into feature films. “After watching Priyamvadha Katharayano, Aju eettan was very impressed and called to congratulate me. Later we discussed Oru Thundu Padam leading to a role in the short film,” said Basil. He also explained how Aju Varghese, a prominent young actor in the industry had introduced him to others in the industry.
After the three short films, he went on to assist Vineeth Sreenivasan in the film Thira. His first film Kunjiramayanam didn’t have to wait long after that. This comical flick was released in 2015 while he was just 25 years old. “I was a little tense before the shoot. Most of the crew were young and more over my friends. I was also nervous about how the senior artists and other senior technicians working on the film would take me. But the seniors on the sets accepted us for who we were and got into the groove,” Basil explained.
Basil is now working on his second film, Godha which narrates the story of a female wrestler starring Tovino Thomas and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles. reachout: www.facebook.com/basiljoseph
