KOZHIKODE: Alleging dissatisfaction over the functioning of the IUML and the treatment of its women’s wing, Noorbina Rasheed has resigned from the post of national secretary of the Women’s League. She announced her resignation at a press conference on Thursday and clarified that she will continue as a member of the Muslim League and will not leave the party.

Noorbina made it clear that her protest was not driven by personal denial of a seat, instead it was about ignoring leaders preferred by the Women’s League.

She criticised the candidature of Fathima Thahiliya in Perambra, stating that while there was nothing wrong in seeking a ticket, others too deserved consideration. Noorbina questioned the basis of her selection and demanded clarity on what constituted “disqualification” for other aspirants.

Meanwhile, party general secretary P M A Salam said that a show-cause notice has been issued to Noorbina, citing what he described as a serious breach of party discipline.

Responding to the developments, Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal said that Noorbina had been given due consideration within the party. He said that she was previously given an opportunity in Kozhikode South. When asked whether the Women’s League had been sidelined, Thangal responded that all men in the party are part of the main League while all women belong to the Women’s League, dismissing claims of neglect.
