HYDERABAD: The current AIMIM has no connection whatsoever to Razakars, its party chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, dismissing claims of BJP that the present dispensation is related to the private militia group that carried out large-scale massacres in 1940s. “We are not descendants of Razakars. They went to Pakistan after the ascension of Hyderabad State to the Indian Union. We have no connection with them,” he said.

Razakars were organised by the then president of MIM, Qasim Razvi to support Nizam’s rule over the Hyderabad State. He also supported ascension of Hyderabad to Pakistan. After Qasim and Razakars left for Pakistan, Asaduddin’s grandfather Abdul Wahed Owaisi, who was a lawyer by profession, took over the reins of the party.

Owaisi, today, attributes the success of the party in Old City to decades of hardwork, since the time of his grandfather. “I win because I work hard,” he said. “It’s our connectivity with the masses that set us apart from other parties. We are always accessible,” he said, citing the dubar system of his party as an example, where any citizen can go to the party headquarters in Darussalam and meet legislators.

“A person must be willing to sacrifice time. Personal comfort also has to be sacrificed. One cannot complain at any time. Money is not everything, connection is what matters,” Owaisi added.

Recollecting an incident, Owaisi was once held accountable by an elderly women  about the developmental activities Hasan Nagar, during a door-to-door campaign along with MIM Rajendranagar MLA candidate Mirza Rahmath Baig. Owaisi said, “She held my hand and complained about the lack of work in her area. This is what politics is about.” In a video, the elderly woman is seen saying, “You people should care about us poor. If you do, god will take care of you.”
