All about 'Castle'

Stana Katic, the lead actress of Star World's 'Castle', says that she is a lot more like her character than we think.

From our online archive

‘Castle’, the hit series that follows the adventures of snarky, fiction writer Castle (Nathan Fillion) and the beautiful and pragmatic New York city detective Kate Beckett (Stana Katic), is one part procedural drama, one part romantic comedy.

The series has been heralded for its quick wit and rapid fire dialogues and it is back on Star World. The third season will have ‘Castle’ as one of the main suspects in a murder case and will delve further into the personal lives of the people who solve murders. We caught up with Stana Katic for more on the new season, including a possible kiss between ‘Castle’ and Beckett:

Preparing for Beckett:

I’m a method actor, so when I landed the role I travelled to New York, solved a homicide involving a zoo keeper and two escaped orangutans from Central Park Zoo. Then I bought myself a police badge and practiced pulling it out in front of the mirror roughly 48 times.

All about the chemistry:

When you get along with and work well with other actors it is easy to have a good chemistry because you have a natural affinity with them. That is what it is like working with the entire cast.

About Castle and Beckett getting together:

I never “kiss” and tell  (*wink, wink*).

Beckett and her mother’s murder:

For Beckett, audiences will learn more about the backstory of her mother’s murder. We also get deeper into her personal life. New love interests are introduced for both Castle and Beckett; and we get to see them grow closer.

Dropping the stereotype:

On screen, a female cop is expected to be butch or androgynous. I believe a woman can be strong, intelligent and feminine. I consciously pushed Beckett in that direction.

Being Beckett:

I relate to Kate Beckett because she is a strong, independent, career-driven woman who is not afraid to show her feminine side. However, I am more of a free-spirit and perhaps less “by the book” than she is.

‘Castle’ premieres on Star World on May 30. Mondays to Fridays at 10 pm.
