There were reports that "American Idol" producers and Fox executives were planning to replace judge Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez to boost the show's ratings. But the makers says it is not true.

Sources told hollywoodreporter.com that Carey threatened legal action when the producers of the singing reality show and Fox planned to replace her.

"This is just another ridiculous Idol judge rumour, likely started by talks of Jennifer performing on the finale," a Fox spokeswoman said.

"American Idol" producer Nigel Lythgoe said: "I have not been included in any conversation regarding replacing Mariah with Jen this season."
