'Songs Bring Out Title Character'

Music director V Harikrishna, who has worked on 18 other Darshan films, says how Jaggu Dada is different.

Jaggu Dada is the 19th Darshan-starrer for which V Harikrishna is working as music director.

While their relationship is based on trust built over several years, it also becomes a challenge for the music director to create music sufficiently different for each of his films. But Harikrishna has delivered each time.

With the audio launch of Jaggu Dada scheduled this evening, Harikrishna speaks to

City Express about how this time the work of lyricists of four songs — Yogaraj Bhat, Kavi Raj, Dr Nagendra Prasad and Chetan of Bahaddur fame -- becomes the strength of the album.

“Though film also runs on a comedy tack with the ensemble cast, we did not miss out on Darshan’s star status,” he says.

But this time, he has concentrated on the character of Jaggu Dada. He explains. “I have created a high-voltage introductory song, which goes Yeddelo ley, Jaggu banda / Seeda nillo, dada banda / Shoaki awaaz beda kanda / Dhamki yella Jaggug chenda / They call him Mass / We call him Boss...”

A wedding song, a melody and a tapanguchi number make up the list of the four tracks the music director has earlier referred to. “In between, we have theme-based music for Jaggu Dada, the character. This way, the film becomes more musical. While I have used my familiarity with Darshan and his work to my advantage, I have also tried to capture the pulse of the character,” says the music director.

Jaggu Dada is tailor-made for Darshan, he adds, and the lyrics helped him create better tunes. The album is being brought out by Harikrishna’s audio company, D beats. “Shyalaja Nag, who manages the company, has managed to make sure we bring out the best albums. That way, I have been able to focus my energies on music alone. She has shouldered all other responsibilities,” he says.

Harikrishna is also doing the background scores for the film. “I hope to complete the background score in the next 20 days,” he says.

The story for Jaggu Dada, directed and produced by Raghavendra Hegde, has been penned by Eshwari Kumar. The film is now in its post-production stages, as the makers are gearing up for a June release. It features Deeksha Seth in the female lead, sharing screen space with Srujan Lokesh, Vishal and Yuvaraj. Rachita Ram and Deepika Kamaiah make guest appearances. H C Venu is its cinematgorapher.
