AMR Ramesh is a director who doesn’t look at a movie just as a piece of entertainment. So it is not different with his new project called Aspota - The Human Bomb, a movie where the director will revisit the subject of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination.
Films like Cyanide and Attahasa, showed the director’s will to highlight serious subjects and the amount of time and effort he spent on research before a project goes on the floors.
For his latest venture, the director has been in constant touch with the people who were at ground zero during the actual incident. This includes former CBI director D R Karthikeyan, retired IPS officer Radha Vinod Raju, former Chennai police officer Anasuya and a top journalist from Bengaluru.
Ramesh just got back from Jaffna on Sunday after meeting around 25 people, including top LTTE leaders from whom he claims to have got crucial details for his film.
He is also keen on shooting his film at the real locations and has also met the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan authorities on the matter. Ramesh has also marked the locations in Jaffna. “I will be shooting at the same spot. The only other location I have to look out for is the CBI office, which is now destroyed in Chennai,” he says.
The director, it seems, is satisfied to have got some interesting information from the people he met in Srilanka. “I got to know some small details like the fact that the LTTE had appointed another person before Sivarasan (the brain behind the assassination). This will be one of the important details I will be exploring in this film,” he says. The script gets more interesting as this was the first human bomb in Sri Lanka’s history, he adds. While, Ramesh is tight-lipped about who will play Rajiv Gandhi in Aspota, he has Ravi Kale on board who will play the role of Sivarasan.
The film will be made under Vijetha Pictures and produced by Ramesh’s wife Indumanty. Aspota’s editor will be Antony and Sandeep Chowta will be the film’s music director. The film will also be made in Telugu and Hindi as The Human Bomb and will be titled Manitha Vedigundu in Tamil.
