Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom (Tamil)

Humorous, engaging and a wholesome family entertainer, Naduvula Konjam Pakkatha Kaanom, is a film you wouldn’t like to miss.

Malini Mannath

It’s about a man who suffers from temporary amnesia, just a couple of days before his wedding. And, of how his friends use their wits to hide it from his family and fiancee, hoping that he would get back his memory soon. Inspired by a real- life incident, it’s interestingly narrated with humour and suspense weaved in judiciously.

Tharaneedharan, a short film maker, who has penned dialogues for a couple of films (Varnam) strikes the right note in his very first effort.

Vijay Sethupathi, who is on a roll since his brilliant portrayal earlier in flicks like Thenmerku Paruvakaatru and Pizza, renders yet another splendid performance here as Prem.

With perfect voice modulation and body language, the actor is a delightful watch. In less competent hands, the role could have been overplayed or ended up as a caricature. Watch Sethupathi’s bewildered expressions and his puzzled refrain of ‘Ennachu....?’ as his friends try to gently nudge him through various embarrassing situations.

Prem does realise that he has lost bits of his memory, but  is confident that it is a temporary problem due to his accidental fall and he would be back to normal in a day.

Sans songs, the rest of the cast lends strong support. Excellent is the reaction of Bagavathi, Rajukumar and Vigneshwaran who play his three friends. The trio generates many fun moments as they try to revive Prem’s memory in various ways and guard him through the events. The bonding among the friends and their understanding of each other are effectively conveyed. Gayatri (of 18 Vayasu) appears in the closing moments as Dhana, Prem’s love and fiancee. But the character’s presence is felt throughout.

There are a number of hilarious moments like the one in which Prem, having no memory of his earlier animosity with a cousin, welcomes him warmly, the latter astonished and emotionally touched.

There is also an element of suspense when Prem’s friends take him to the marriage hall, hoping the sight of Dhana would revive his memory. What follows is hilarious. A thorough entertainer, Naduvula Konjam is a must- watch.
