When actor and comedian Karunas came to Kollywood in 1987, it was his dream to make it big as a music director. Those in the loop, know that the actor is a seasoned musician with 1,000 stage shows, jingles, albums in pop, religious, gana, remix and folk music to his credit. But as luck would have it, he entered films as an actor in Bala’s Nanda instead. Today he has even made it as an independent hero in the well-received 'Dindugal Sarathy'. But thanks to director Sakthi Chidambaram, Karuna’s long standing desire has been now fulfilled. Karunas and Paul J are the music director duo of his 'Rajadhi Raja', starring Raghava Lawrence and five heroines.

Explains Karunas talking to the media about his move, “I am very grateful to Sakthi Chidmabaram for offering me this chance. Three songs are complete. Paul J and I are long standing collaborators in music so we have a perfect understanding. Even if I don’t do any other films, at least my wife’s dream (when she fell in love with me) of seeing me as independent music director would have come true!” he says simply.

Katrika Katrika is a kuthu number while 'Kanda Kadamba' is a song with brotherly sentiments. Actor Lawrence is all praise for Karuna’s music. Karunas reveals his musical lineage, “I learnt Carnatic music from Ambujam mami in Mylapore and later learnt the piano from Musee Musicals. I have been a singer along with my wife for many years.”

Karunas has used new voices for his film. Karunas is all praise for Paul J, “He is one of the world’s best musicians and knows the local talent as well. He has composed for two Tamil films earlier but he is so busy with international and other projects that he never ventured much into films,” he explains. Now lets see if this new duo in Kollywood bring a whiff of fresh air to the music scene.
