She started off as a teen actor at 14, playing Saranya Mohan’s role in the Kannada remake of Yaradi Nee Mohini. Now, with a presence in Tollywood as well, young actor Vithika Sheru, is set to enter Kollywood, with Mahabalipuram and Uyirmozhi.
Vithika says, “My Kannada debut happened by chance. I accompanied my aunt, who is a stylist, to the film sets when someone spotted me. I said okay to the role and later continued with my studies. I have completed my PG in fashion design from the Lakhotia Institute of Design in Hyderabad. But offers from Tollywood poured in, so, I did the second lead in Jumandhi Naadham. Now, I’m one of the main leads in Prema Ishq Kadhal opposite Harshvardhan Rane. I’m hooked to the industry. This is where I want to be.”
About her unusual name she says, “Many people think I’m a North Indian, but I’m actually from Andhra.” Vithika is excited about her entry into K Town, with not just one, but two films. Speaking about her role in Clap Board Movies’ Vinayak’s Mahabalipuram, she says, “I play Mahalakshmi and the story is set in the tourist town of Mahabalipuram. I went for the audition and director Don Sandy thought that my big eyes and innocent, girl-next-door looks completely suited the character he had in mind.”
The film’s producer, Vinayak, who acted earlier in Lee, Vettaikaran and Kaalai, now debuts as hero. Ramesh, Karthik and Vetri, are her other co-stars, along with Angana Roy. K of Mugamudi fame is scoring the music, while Don Sandy who formerly assisted Boopathy Pandian, is debuting. L V Thasson, who earlier worked with Mynaa and Kumki, is the editor. The film is touted to be a ‘serious comedy’ and was shot in 46 days.
It would seem that Vithika takes her roles very seriously. “In Uyirmozhi, I play a visually-challenged girl. So I used to tie a band around my eyes from morning till night, to understand the feeling of not being able to see. During a film, I get completely into the character. Everyone has to call me by my character name, even at home. So I was Maha to everyone till this film got over. Till now, I have three names, corresponding to each of my heroine roles so far. I’ve even used my own costumes in Mahabalipuram, to connect completely with my character,” she signs off.
