HYDERABAD: Bachupally, one of the fastest growing suburbs located in Quthbullapur mandal and beset with drinking water scarcity, will soon get proper and sufficient supply.

The department of rural water supply (RWS), through Telangana Drinking Water Supply Corporation (TDWSC), has been supplying drinking water to Bachupally and nearby habitations till now amd its task will be taken over by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB).
The  residents of Bachupally gram panchayat in Nizampet section have long been  requesting the HMWS&SB for drinking water supply through pipeline network.

The state government asked RWS department to provide bulk drinking water supply to all the gram panchayats, municipalities, rural habitations and municipal corporations situated outside the Outer Ring Road (ORR). On the other hand, supply to all gram panchayats, colonies, habitations, institutions and other urban areas located within ORR is to be provided by the department of municipal administration and urban development (MA&UD) through HMWS&SB. As per the instructions of the government, the metro water board has proposed to undertake a technical feasibility study on designing a network for laying main and distribution pipelines, prepare plans with contour levels including drawings covering the entire area of Bachupally gram panchayat through consultancy service.

A new operation and maintenance division — O&M Division-XVIII — has been formed covering Manikonda, Puppalguda, Narsingi, Neknampur, Bachupally villages. Till now drinking water to these and other villages and municipalities within and outside ORR been being provided by the RWS department in bulk supplies in the absence of adequate pipeline network.
The water board wants the selected consultants to conduct a detailed survey and design the main and distribution pipelines for Bachupally.
After an agreement is reached with the selected agency, the latter is to complete the study and submit a detailed project report in a month. It should execute conceptual planning and design aspects taking cognizance of the present and future water needs in the areas.
It should also study the areas and propose various alternative alignments for laying  transmission and distribution mains to suit the soil condition.
The study is to take into account the existing water supply system in Bachupally area and suggest projected demand for drinking water in the area for year 2040,  the scope of additional revenue generation,  operational improvement, etc.
