PORT BLAIR: The Andaman and Nicobar administration has been planning to extend the municipal limit of Port Blair municipal Council, by adding 10 remote villages of South Andaman viz Garacharma, Birchgunj, Dolly Gunj, Brookshabad, (part), Prothrapur, Austinabad (part), Calicut, Bimblitan, Sippighat and Teylerabad.

This decision was taken considering that in the past decade there has been a substantial rise in commercial and housing activities at these villages adjoining Port Blair municipal area resulting in acquiring of quintessential urban features.

Now, the administration felt that an urban civic body having requisite institutional capacity would be better placed for creation of assets as well as their better management relating to civic amenities concerning day to day life of the residents.
