NEW DELHI: Over 43,000 Indians were evacuated through the land route from earthquake-hit Nepal by Wednesday evening, Sashatra Seema Bal ADG Somesh Goyal told Express.
A total 685 vehicles came back carrying Indians, foreigners and some injured people, who were given medical care at the camps set up by the force. The massive operation witnessed the evacuation of 341 foreigners, who were granted transit visas. “Sixty-seven trucks with relief materials were also sent to various earthquake-affected areas of Nepal on Wednesday. So far the total number of evacuees is around 43,575. Around 2,000 were needed medical care and 27 injured were admitted to the district hospital,” Goyal said.
The 16 NDRF teams, along with 18 sniffer dogs, recovered 30 bodies on Wednesday, taking the total number of bodies the force has recovered so far to 115. Also, they have plucked 11 persons from various areas of Nepal.
Meanwhile, the National Crisis Management Committee was informed that 1,052 Nepalese had been rescued and evacuated to military hospitals by Indian rescue teams. As many as 152 tourists, including 19 foreign mountaineers, were also rescued.
A total of 9,509 persons were evacuated by air and 785 foreigners were granted transit visas.
