AIZAWL: The Mizoram unit of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) today staged a demonstration here demanding a separate 'Gorkhaland' state carving out of West Bengal.

Members of the state committee of the GJM in the sit-in demonstration displayed placards in support of 'Gorkhaland' comprising Darjeeling hill region, Siliguri, Terai, Dooars and surrounding areas.

GJM leaders said that the Gorkhas living in India became Indian citizens in accordance with the Treaty of Sugauli, 1874.

"We the Gorkhas are always mistaken as foreigners due to the fact that we do not have a separate state of our own in the country," they said.

They appealed to the people of Mizoram to support the demand for a separate 'Gorkhaland.'
