NEW DELHI:  The Election Commission today asked poll authorities in five states, where assembly elections were held recently, to prepare themselves for sending EVMs for an open challenge to prove that the machines can be tampered with. Parties which participate in the challenge can demand EVMs used in polls in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, Goa and Punjab.

The challenge begins June 3. Parties can use up to four EVMs to prove that they can be hacked and that they were hacked ahead of the polls. The EVMs that have been sealed under court orders will not be used for the challenge.

The EVMs for the challenge will have to be transported in special trunks. The party representatives will be allowed to accompany the EVMs provided they manage their own travel.
