JAIPUR: A transformer exploded in the Khatulai village near the Shahpura town in this district today killing five persons and injuring several others, police said.

The massive explosion occurred at a time when the members of a family were passing by the transformer on their way to perform some marriage rituals, they said.

Five bodies were recovered while the injured were sent to the nearby hospitals for treatment, the police said.

A team is on the spot to take stock of the situation, SP, Jaipur (Rural), Dr Rameshwar Singh, said.

Nearly 10-12 persons were rushed to hospital, he added.
