RAIPUR: The administration of a government higher secondary school in Dantewada district in south Chhattisgarh was shocked to find cut marks on the wrists of 15 students. They are investigating whether the children were playing the deadly online game of dares, Blue Whale Challenge.
School staff discovered the cut marks during routine checking of personal hygiene of the students. Principal L B Yadav immediately sent an alert to the district education officer (DEO) and higher authorities.
"The principal found some self-inflicted injuries on the forearms of students. Their parents have been informed. We are going to counsel the students. Experts have been called to verify the records and history of mobile phone use," said D Samayya, Dantewada district education officer.
The students are from Class 9-10. The education department has decided to run a campaign among students to generate awareness about the dangers of playing the game.
In Balod, six students were found to be playing the deadly game in a private school on Thursday. According to Balod superintendent of police Deepak Jha, police rushed to the spot but the children had fled.
