KOLKATA: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth was greeted by his fans as he reached Darjeeling in West
Bengal on Wednesday. The actor will stay in the hill town for a month’s time, mostly in Mount Hermon School, for shooting a Tamil movie for Chennai-based filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj.
The Tamil movie will be the first to be shot in Darjeeling after Telugu flick ‘Raja –The Great’ shot in April last year before the onset of the 105-day Gorkhaland agitation.
The Tamil superstar landed at Bagdogra airport in Siliguri on Wednesday morning and then went to Darjeeling by road. His fans gathered both at the airport and lined major junctions along the road.
Shooting for the movie is expected to begin from Thursday onwards. The superstar is accompanied by over 700 staff.
However, sources revealed that sections of the century-old school will not be open for shooting due to impending examinations on June 11 and June 12. Established in 1895 by Emma L Knowles of the
American Methodist Episcopal as Arcadia and then as Queen’s Hill School, the school was shifted to Singmari in 1926.
Though the hills has attracted movie shootings right from Rajesh Khanna-Sharmila Tagore starrer ‘Aradhana’ to Bollywood flicks 'Main Hoon Na', 'Barfi' and 'Kahaani 2', no actor has stayed in the
hills for as long as Rajinikanth will.
